‘WannaCry’ Ransomware Attack
You will all be aware of the ransomware attacks on the NHS on Friday of last week and the warnings of potential further attacks as people return to work this morning. So far it is estimated that there are more than 200,000 victims in 150 countries.
Whilst we learn more about the virus and the way that it is spread you will no doubt read and hear lots of information and misinformation – the best advice we can give is the consistent advice we give about avoiding virus attacks.
- Keep software up-to-date
- Keep anti-virus up-to-date and employ a firewall
- Most viruses get into systems via human error so ensure that staff are educated – we’d suggest reading our https://www.your-itdepartment.co.uk/news/beware-the-phishermen/ blog post on Phishing attacks and sharing the information with your staff
Your IT worked over the weekend to check that servers are running the latest patched versions of software and that anti-virus and all other security is up to date for all customers. Your IT customers are at minimal risk but should remain vigilant.
