Bore draw and defeat make up disappointing weekend

Despite a change of formation from manager Steve Evans  Mansfield could only manage a no score draw at home at the weekend, whilst Hinckley fell to defeat after 8 consecutive wins.

Mansfield Town

Mansfield Town had to settle for a 0-0 draw at home to Yeovil Town on Saturday, despite a dominant performance which was thwarted by a resilient Glovers’ back-line.

The first half was an even affair with both sides trading blows but struggling to find a way through. The visitors arguably had the better of the chances with the Glovers hitting the woodwork when striker Sam Surridge headed winger Otis Khan’s cross against the bar. Mansfield’s best chance came in the final seconds of the first half, striker Lee Angol seeing a shot from close range deflected just past the near post.

Mansfield lifted their game in the second half but were unable to find a way past a resolute Yeovil defence with the visitors happy to settle for a point. The Stags’ best opportunity came with 15 minutes to go when winger Paul Anderson was inches away from turning in defender Krystian Pearce’s ball across the face of goal. Yeovil had a late free-kick which could have stolen all three points, but from a central position, Tom James failed to find the target.

Hinckley RFC

Hinckley’s impressive winning run came to an end with a 12-8 defeat at Chester in muddy conditions.

Mitch Lamb scored the Hornets only try with Callum Dacey adding a penalty but they were unable to grab the win against the hosts.

Despite the loss, Hinckley stay top of the National League Division Two North Table, 3 points ahead of Sale who have a game in hand.
