Meet Kieran Sheppard.

Our series of posts introducing the Your IT Team continues with our 2nd Line Support Engineer, Kieran Sheppard.

What’s your role at Your IT?

Myself and my colleague Ryan are the first part of the escalation team. Any tickets that can’t be dealt with by our first line technicians we will either assist them in completing the tickets or we will complete them ourselves. My role includes providing support for our clients by helping with their request and supporting the rest of our team wherever I can.

I also partake in the occasional onsite visit when required, I really enjoy this aspect as it’s nice to meet our clients and put a face to a name as I’m sure they feel the same. As well as remote support, I often get involved in the practical workshop side of the business be that; initial laptop/PC setups, installing memory, hard drives or anything else required.

Tell us a bit about your background:

I initially wanted to be a Police Officer which in turn led me to do a college course aimed at Uniformed Public and Military Services. I finished my course and got a job in a pub whilst deciding my next step, however working long shift hours in a pub made me realise I wasn’t a fan of shift work at all!

In turn, I looked at my other interest to pursue a career in, I’d always enjoyed technology (specifically gaming tech) and the internal workings of computers. I, therefore, decided to peruse a job in IT where I’m constantly learning every day and get the chance to stay up to date with the huge market of tech.

What are the plans for the future?

Ultimately, I think I would like to move more towards the onsite technician side of the business. I really enjoy the physical work aspect, meeting different people and enjoy driving and traveling to different places. I’d like to progress my knowledge of physical network structures in order to be able to have the knowledge needed to install switches, WatchGuards, servers etc.

Away from work what do you like to do to relax?

I don’t do much relaxing outside of work, I’m pretty busy most of the time! Following on from my college course I like to remain active. If I’m not at work I’m either at the gym, out cycling or at my local swimming club where I’m a coaching assistant for the club. Failing all that I’m probably getting blind drunk in a pub or town somewhere!
