Say Hello to Charley
We continue our introductions to the Your IT Team with our Helpdesk Manager, Charley Clarke.
What’s your role at Your IT?
Working closely with Simon Cox, our Technical Director, I take overall responsibility for the helpdesk function. I keep an eye on all the issues coming in and allocate them to technicians on the desk, whilst ensuring SLA’s are met and providing a high level of customer service for more serious matters. Ultimately it is my job to make sure the service desk runs like a well-oiled machine.
Tell us a bit about your background:
I sort of fell into IT at the age of 19 after leaving University and completed a COMTIA apprenticeship in 2013. I used to get frustrated with computers at school as they always seemed to do the opposite to what I wanted them too. It was never my career of choice when I left college but how things can change… and now I manage a service desk!
What are the plans for the future?
Going forward, I would like to enhance my technical knowledge by undertaking various Microsoft and Cisco exams. With this being my first role in service desk management I will at some point be undertaking more customer service training to benefit all our customers. I predict massive things for Your IT and would like to be part of the journey throughout and would like to cement my position in management and lead by example. I see a company with huge potential, with the ability to expand its client base massively and to be the top MSP in the East Midlands.
Away from work what do you like to do to relax?
Away from the office I am a Nottingham Forest season ticket holder so spend my time trying to relax by watching/listening to them. Any mention of Derby County is banned in this office. Apart from that, I spend most of my time cooking, fixing up our recently purchased house with my fiancée and laying on the sofa, usually being forced into watching another Crime drama or One Born Every Minute.
Now for some quick-fire questions:
What’s the best part of your job? The money… and Simon’s lack of hair! AND A GREAT TEAM!!
What’s your idea of a perfect night out? A pint of lager and a packet of crisps, singing “Sweet Caroline”
Which historical figure would you like to go drinking with? Jesus, he turns water into wine apparently so it’d be free.
What’s your most embarrassing moment? Waking up to the many half naked photos of myself from the drunken night before
What’s the last thing you watched on TV and why did you choose to watch it? Football on Sky Sports because I can drink beer when that’s on, I can’t with One Born Every Minute.
How many days have you gone without showering? Many!!!! Smelt like a sewer rat!
